Warning message: "Microsoft Word is not installed on this computer"
Response:
The 'Address Book Publisher' and 'Print Folder List' applets (among others) use Microsoft Word to produce output. Both these applets will automatically start Word if it is not already running. It was noticed that running either of the above applets when Word was not already active would result in a Formativ error message stating that Microsoft Word was not installed on the computer. The applets had previously been able to automatically start Word. The applets were able to operate normally if Word was started manually.
Norton Antivirus 2002 had just been installed on the PC. Norton Antivirus 2002 has a feature called the Microsoft Office Plugin, which was enabled. This feature was blocking all attempts by any application to start an instance of the Word programming interface. When this option was disabled in Norton Antivirus, the applets were able to automatically start Word.
To disable this feature in Norton Antivirus 2002:
- Select 'Configure Norton Antivirus' from the Nortons tray application icon - Select 'Miscellaneous' under 'Other' - Uncheck 'Enable Office Plugin'
Note that this feature in Norton Antivirus affects any application that wishes to use the services provided by Word, not just Formativ.
