We have installed Formativ 2.0 all all our machines. Each machine points to the network to pick up the Applets that we want them to use. On several of the computers, the Stationery applet will allow the selection of a stationery, but then will not bring up any stationery when the okay button is sellected. We are trying to select a stationery that is using a few address book fields. This works the same regardless of the GroupWise user. It seems to be a problem with the way the applet is running on the individual machine. Please help me diagnose this we are running:

      stationery version 2.0.19

Thank you for your posting. A couple of initial questions:

        1) Are you able to run any other applets on one of these machines? We need to determine if this is a stationery applet-specific problem, or if it affects all applets;

        2) If only the stationery applet is affected, are you able to use another item of stationery (i.e one that does’nt include the inclusion of address book fields)?

        Kind regards,

On the machines that the stationery does not work, the other applets we tried work fine. When not working, sometimes it will not even bring up the window to allow the user to select a stationery. When it does show this window, it is slow coming up and then once a stationery is selected, it will not create an email from it.

The fact other applets appear to run fine on these machine is very peculiar. Stationery makes heavy use of Microsoft Internet Explorer (as does GroupWise in terms of it’s HTML support). It might be worthwhile re-installing the latest version of IE, then re-install the GroupWise client to ensure the workstation is properly configured.

Which version of Windows are you running? I’m assuming it’s not 95/98/NT?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sorry, I am so slow in getting back. We have a lot to do this time of year. The computers are all running Windows 2000 Professional. We will try and re-install IE and GroupWise and let you know.

We have been trying to fix this problem by reinstalling IE and GroupWise. Even uninstalling IE first and then reinstalling. This seems to have fixed the problem in one out of 3 boxes. The other two show no change. I asked and was assured that the other applets are working.

It’s very difficult to say what might be causing this problem to persist on a couple of machines, but it’s probably a fairly safe assumption that it’s a specific environmental issue.

Are all the machines the same in terms of specification (i.e. processor, memory, antivirus software, etc)?

You may want to try (temporarily) disabling any antivirus software, etc, and try again to see if something on the machines is consuming resources that might cause the solution to fail.

You may also want to try increasing the amount of available virtual memory. Do this via the Windows Control Panel. Select the System applet, then select the Advanced tab. Press the Settings button on the Performance group. When the Performance Options dialog appears select the Advanced tab. Press the Change button in the Virtual Memory group. Increase the Initial and Maximum MB size (I am using 768 and 1536MB respectively). Press Set, then OK.

                    I hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. I will pass it on to the installer and see if we have any success.

The computers that this applet fail on are the same type and initial setup as the few that it works on. It is not obvious what is the difference in the configurations between computers that work and those that do not.

Thanks for the update. In an earlier post you mentioned these machines exhibited slowness when dialogs, etc, were being rendered. This leads me to suspect a resource issue.

                        I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

                        Regards,

Still not success. I had my assistant remove all of the temp files, check virtual memory etc, reload MS/IE and GroupWise. The stationery still is not working on several machines.

I had a very similar problem – some of our machines would work fine with stationary and some wouldn’t.

I eventually traced it to the HTML using the AB: smartfields – with all these remove the problem disappeared. The GW and NDS smartfield did not cause a problem.
