      Hi,

How can I install the runtime version of 1.5 without the local applets getting installed?

I tried the “Install Local Applets and Data=0” in the installer script and turned off the “Create and Manage Personal Applets” in eDirectory.

Any ideas? I anm looking for a simple install to push out to users.

      Thanks,
      TEF

The configuration should work but the trick is to include the config file in the same directory as the installation program, i.e. do not use a fully qualified path to the filename, just the filename. For example:

        z:installformativruntime /i-config.ini

We will look at making this more flexible in a future update.

Changing the Configuration settings for the “Create and Manage Personal Applets” in eDirectory has no effect on Formativ Runtime.

Please let us know if you have any further questions or problems.

I did not include the config file path and I did put it in the same directory. After looking through the help files, it says that the “Install Local Applets and Data” is NOT used for the runtime version. Is that true?

It was true for Formativ Client 1.0 but this option is now valid for Formativ Runtime 1.5 because of the new availability of the Business Solutions Pack 30-day trial and the other free solutions which ship with the product (No Junk Mail, Today View etc.).

Unfortunately it appears that this restriction was erroneously left in the documentation and we will update it.

We tested the config file again and the parameter following your message and it worked in our case. One thing to be aware of is that, if you are not using ‘Silent’ mode, during the installation you will still see the options checked for the applet solutions regardless of your configuration file settings. However, if you proceed, the applets and data will not be installed. When designed, it was anticipated that the configuration file would be used in silent mode (no user intervention) and thus the user option dialogs would not be seen.

Are you going through the full installation cycle and still not having any success?

Sounds good to me. I installed the full runtime on my laptop and then uninstalled to test the new script install. I am sure Win2K left some things around which picked up the orginal settings.

I will try my script on a virgin machine and let you know. I am glad to here that the doc was just a typo — I have had a few in my time too 🙂

I have been with you guys since the first beta and I just love the new features. I made up a quick demo for a Outlook faithful, and Formativ just floored him. When we acquire new divisions, they almost always have Exchange, and when I go through the standard GW features then add your stuff, they just kind of stand there with a “foot in the mouth” type of look (Is that saying just a US thing?)

              Thanks for the help,

              TEF

Thanks very much for the feedback and let us know how your testing progresses. I think ‘Foot in Mouth’ is a universal saying! 🙂

Can I pass on your feedback to our marketing/sales people for use as a quote?

Thank you for your continued support.

I’m trying to do the same without success, and I’m using the latest build of the runtime (1.5.8) and my command line is:

                  formativruntime /s /i-config.ini /r-xxxxxx

The runtime gets installed silently and it’s registered, but even though my config.ini indicates to NOT install local applets, I get the 30-day business solutions applets. I’ve tried uninstalling and trying my command line over and over, but the results are the same.

We discovered an example config.ini installed with the Distribution Kit contains a reference to an obsolete value name. The documentation in the Kit is correct.

One of the examples in the Distribution Kit contains the following line:

                      Install Local Macros and Data=0

                      This should read:

                      Install Local Applets and Data=0

The first version is not recognised by the installer, resulting in the BSP applets being installed. The second (correct) version works.
