    Looks like Novell has a bug in their documentation! Taken from their web page(s) that document the Object API:

    Groups and Compound Statements Example
    (FROM CONTAINS “TJEFFERSON” OR FROM CONTAINS “jADAMS”) AND (MESSAGE BEGINS WITH
    “When in the course” AND CREATE_DATE = 1776/7/4)
