We would like to install Formativ Runtime AND applets using Zenworks.
(the approach described in http://www.advansyscorp.com/faq/20010918t143835.htm )

I looked at the distribution kit documentation, but was not clear how I can specify the default folders for data and applets. The description for files formativ.axt and formativruntime.axt appear same in the help, exept for the word ”Runtime’. Which of these files will specify where the applets and data live ?

      formativ.axt

FORMATIV.AXT is used to build a ZENworks Application Object that installs and registers Formativ on a workstation. The AXT file executes the standard Formativ installation program, and optionally passes a number of command line parameters to the installer in order to customize the installation. Like all AXT files, you will need to edit its contents to ensure that it works appropriately in your environment. For full details on the usage of the command line parameters, please see the comments in the AXT file or the installer documentation.

      formativruntime.axt

FORMATIVRUNTIME.AXT is used to build a ZENworks Application Object that installs and registers Formativ Runtime on a workstation. The AXT file executes the standard Formativ Runtime installation program, and optionally passes a number of command line parameters to the installer in order to customize the installation. Like all AXT files, you will need to edit its contents to ensure that it works appropriately in your environment. For full details on the usage of the command line parameters, please see the comments in the AXT file or the installer documentation.

Thank you for your question. The example AXT files simply run the standard Formativ Installer. (The same one that is run manually). As with a manual installation, an AXT installation may pass any supported parameters to the installer executable. These command line parameters are documented in the Windows Installer topic of the Distribution Kit documentation. The most useful parameters is /i-, which lets you specify a configuration file used by the installer. This file can specify many standard settings, including the location of applets and data. See the topic mentioned above for full details.

I’m trying to use the formativ_uninstall.axt file to remove formative. When I load it into Zenworks, it doesn’t have any settings. Is that compatible with Zenworks 7.0?

The Formativ related example AXT files were produced early in the release cycle and we have not tested them with later versions of ZENworks. At this stage do not have plans to update them.

Is there another way to silently uninstall formativ? Like a switch to use with uwise.exe?

You can get the list of Command Line Switches from the Users Guide. You can access the Users Guide from the GroupWise Help menu or from the Start – All Programs – Advansys Formativ program menu.

                quote:

                Silent Mode
                /s
Run the installation in the background without any user interface or prompts. This is useful for configuring unattended installations. If used, this switch must be the first switch to appear on the command line.

                Unregister Formativ
                /u

Unregisters a previously registered version of Formativ. If this switch is used, all others are ignored. Using this switch will NOT provide another 30 day trial period.

You can use the UNWISE.EXE (usually in “C:Documents and SettingsUSER-NAMELocal SettingsApplication DataAdvansysFormativ1.0Installation Logs”) to uninstall the solution or framework. You need to include the LOG file on uninstall. The LOG files are stored in the same folder.

                  Example: UNWISE.EXE /s solution_name.LOG
