We licensed Archive To Go for all 400 of our GroupWise mailboxes that were migrated to a new mail platform. Most users have installed and used it with no trouble (except XML problems with the Viewer–see other message.)

However, a small percentage of our PCs cannot get Archive To Go installed. The error message is always the same, one of those .NET Framework ones:

“There are some problems while trying to use Creator, please check the following error messages:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

      At Advansys.Arctic.AccountInfo.LoadFromRegistry()”

And it goes on from there.

Now, Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 *is* installed. I’ve tried it with and without .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1, .NET Framework 2.0, .NET Framework 3.0, .NET Framework 3.5. I’m a Windows administration expert who is very familiar with .NET Framework problems, having had to rip out and reinstall the .NET Framework at home. I’m familiar with Microsoft’s .NET Framework uninstall cleanup utilities, and I tried both of them. Nothing I’ve tried changes the error message, and it’s the same on all PCs showing this error.

The PCs already have GroupWise 7.0.2 and Archive To Go 1.5.0.1 installed. What do I do next? This problem is critical, because we must create more archives before the GroupWise infrastructure is ripped out in the next week or so. Please help! Sande

Hint: If I start the GroupWise client first and login to some mailbox, then Archive To Go will at least start.

        Any ideas?

Your hint is absolutely right. Recently another customer reported this problem, with the following important note:

          quote:

FYI, this GW client does not live connect or caching mode connect to a GW post office. It is in remote mode only and only checks POP3 email accounts.

The error detail indicates that some data Creator expects to find in the Windows Registry is missing. Can you check, please, whether the following key exists in the Registry?

            HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareNovellGroupWiseLogin Parameters

If the key exists, can you confirm that the following sub-keys exist?

            Account Name
            PostOfficePath
            TCP/IP Address
            TCP/IP Port

If all (or some) of the above do not exist, it’s because GroupWise has not been used in a mode that leads to it creating these keys. For the moment you will need to create the missing keys manually using Regedit. Note that when using Regedit, the default item “(Default)” value for each key must be changed from “(Value not set)” to blank. Alternatively, run the .REG file which has been sent to your email address; it creates the keys and sets their values to blank.
