Complete Uninstall of Formativ 2.x

My co-worker took it upon himself to download a copy of Formative 2.5 (I think – can’t get a straight answer). In any event, we need to completely uninstall the program and get back to our version which is 2.01. When he runs the uninstall, and then installs 2.01 he’s claiming that the registration utility still reports version 2.5 and won’t allow our registration code to be entered.

Anyone run into this before? If so, how do you resolve it? Supposedly he’s already tried going through the registry to no avail.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

**At this time we have no plans to upgrade to the newest Formativ so we’d like to stick with what we own.

Hi,

You should be able to uninstall 2.5 and reinstall 2.0.1. From your message you have the original installer and for future reference, you can download it from the Formativ 2.0.1 download page, http://www.advansyscorp.com/formativ_download_20.htm.

Which operating system are you using? When you uninstall, perhaps check that all files are removed from the Formativ program folder, C:Program FilesAdvansysFormativ or C:Program Files (x86)AdvansysFormativ. The registration utility application is frmrmg10.exe.

Supposedly he’s tried that.

Is there anywhere else a preference file would be saved? Common Files? User Profile?

I believe the OS in question is Win 7 64bit.

It may not be officially supported but 2.01 runs just fine under Windows 7 64bit. I have multiple machines running it without any issues.

The only issue is the registration utility which you need to set to run in Windows XP (SP3) Compatibility Mode AND also as administrator. Once you do that, the registration utility will run and allow you to enter your license key.

But we’re off track here…I need 2.5 completely removed off the PC. All preference files, registry keys, etc. So beyond the uninstall routine, where could any lingering keys/files be residing?

Thanks for the additional background.

You should be able to resolve the problem using the following approach below.

1) Uninstall Formativ 2.5.
2) If not completely removed by the uninstall process, delete the Formativ program folder (C:Program Files (x86)AdvansysFormativ).
3) Remove any user related data in:

C:UsersAppDataLocalAdvansysFormativ
C:ProgramDataAdvansysFormativ.

4) Install Formativ 2.0.1.

The above steps should prevent any necessity to fiddle around with the registry.
