Can Formativ be used to READ the meta data properties of a GW e-mail message and/or its document attachments?

Yes. Advansys Message Saver (AMS) records message metadata inside the FML file after reading it via the Formativ interface to the GroupWise APIs. You can see this metadata as items inside the FML file (try opening one using a text editor or Web browser), eg. Read/Unread, Private, Forwarded, Replied, categories. For file attachments, Message Saver records DisplayName, FileName.

The GroupWise APIs do not provide a way to access the metadata for specific proprietary document formats. Depending on the metadata you wish to access, you might need to look into creating/obtaining a reader for each format. If the metadata of interest to you are the items on the Summary tab of a document’s property sheet (eg. use Windows File Explorer to select a PDF file, open its context menu, select Properties), I think it should be possible to use the Windows APIs to access this information.

    I hope this helps.
