Limited account users cannot open archive2go. is this a limitation of the software or a problem with my installs? we currently have about 50 users with limited windows accounts. is there anyway to use this product with a limited account? if this is not the case then this software is useless for us. we cannot enable admin access to the PCs.
      Thanks,
      kevin

        Thanks for your enquiry.

We have not seen reports of a limited Windows account causing Archive To Go not to work. Can you provide more information about how “limited account users cannot open archive2go”, please? For example, what is the full text of the displayed error (if any)?

Which component of Archive To Go cannot be opened, ie. Creator, Indexer, Finder, Viewer?

If your limited account users are trying to run Finder/Indexer from a network location, perhaps this featured topic will help.

What is the version of Windows?

sorry for the lack of information,

The error I receive is “A critical component of the archive to go access system is missing or invalid”

I installed it on the local drive in windows xp sp2 and groupwise 7.

The component i am having trouble with is the creator.

when I have it installed on a system, I can run it with the admin account but not with the limited account unless i right click and do a “run as” and get admin rights

          thanks for the quick reply

          Kevin

              Thanks.

Also please note that I was also not able to install on the limited accounts. When I installed it on the admin account, I didn’t get the link from inside GW to launch the creator. I had to give the limited account admin rights, install it, and then remove the admin rights from the limited account.

This even occurs on a fresh system with nothing else but the novell client and GW installed.

This is known behaviour of the Windows limited user account. Administrators can install software for the entire computer (i.e. “c:program files”). Standard users cannot perform these tasks and you have to run it through a privliged account or “Run as” option.

Could you please clarify the behaviour. Does the “Archive To Go” creator – GroupWise toolbar exists in admin/standard account?

I have found a resolution. When installed, The limited account did not have write access to the program folder. If I log in as admin and give the proper rights, it works. I will now have to do this to every machine but after that I shouldn’t have a problem.

Is this normal for archive2go installs?

                    Thanks for the clarification.

Our engineers have confirmed that Creator attempts to access the install folder in Read/Write mode. Limited accounts have Read-only access to this folder unless they are granted additional rights – as you have done.

This issue has been added to our list of enhancements for Archive To Go.

Many thanks for drawing this to our attention.
