    We have recently purchased Formativ Small Business package and upon installing Formativ Admin and following the administrators guide, I have no Applets menu in the GroupWise client. The NDS schema extending, object creation, and Admin program installation all went without error. I have double-checked the NDS object setup, had someone else check the setup, and all seems correct. Reinstalled the Admin program, and still no menu.

    I hope i’m not missing something simple!

    Support info from the control panel applet is below.

    Thanks.

    Thank you for your posting. Your configuration information looks OK, so the cause of the problem is not obvious.

    We need to determine if the problem lies with just the ‘Applets’ menu item, or the menu integration system generally. In GroupWise, from the main menu select ‘Help’. Are there any Formativ menu items on this menu? There should be at least an ‘About Formativ’ menu item.

    Once we determine the extent of the problem the resolution should not be difficult.

    Thanks for your quick reply.

    There is no ‘About Formativ’ menu on the Help menu.

    There are no Formativ menus in GroupWise at all.

    The complete absence of menus would indicate Formativ is not loading at all. This is normally caused by:

    1) An incomplete/corrupt Formativ installation;
    2) An incomplete/corrupt GroupWise client installation;
    3) Formativ is disabled.

    The first thing to check is the Formativ Windows Control Panel applet. From the Windows start menu, select Settings|Control Panel, then start the Formativ Control Panel applet. On the enable features tab, ensure Formativ and it’s components are enabled (i.e the appropriate check boxes are active).

    Did you seen the menus in GroupWise prior to setting up eDirectory? If you did, it is possible that the configuration object you are now using is set to disable Formativ. Open the appropriate configuration object in ConsoleOne and check the ‘Formativ is enabled’ option is checked, as well as the ‘Create…’, ‘Record…’, ‘Run menu…’ and ‘Favorites…’ options. Restart GroupWise after changing any of these options.

    You could also check if this is a configuration issue by selecting ‘No Protocols’ from the Formativ Control Panel applet and retstarting GroupWise. This will force Formativ to ignore eDirectory and use the local settings.

    I hope this helps. Please let me know if you continue to experience problems.

    I have uninstalled Formativ Admin from the Add/Remove Programs control panel and uninstalled GroupWise using the Cleaning Agent. I’ve manually removed all file and registry entries relating to both Formativ and GroupWise, then reinstalled both packages.

    No integration.

    I setup another user on another workstation with Runtime and the integration works fine. I logged into another workstation with Formativ Admin installed and the integration worked.

    Then, I formatted my hard disk, reinstalled Windows 98 from CD, installed NetWare Client 3.32.0.0 SP1, Sophos AntiVirus 3.69, GroupWise Client 5.5.5 (18/12/2001), then Formativ Admin. Still no integration. All the these programs are installed on the machine where Admin worked when I was logged in.

    The only differences between the two workstations is hardware. The workstation where Admin loaded is a Dell Dimention, the workstation where Admin doesn’t load is a custom built machine, although I can’t imagine this is a hardware issue.

    Is there anything at all that can cause Formativ not to load which I may have installed as part of Windows setup, or the NetWare Client? If not, I am at a loss!

    Thanks for the update. I doubt this is a hardware problem.

    We really need to ensure the problem is not being caused by settings coming down from eDirectory (a completely clean machine won’t affect this aspect of the system).

    Select ‘No Protocols’ from the Formativ Control Panel applet and restart GroupWise. This will force Formativ to ignore eDirectory and use the local settings. Once re-started, check if you have any Formativ entries on the GroupWise ‘About’ menu item.

    If this fails, I’ll send you a special version that logs the startup process. This should tell us very quickly where the problem lies.

    I selected ‘Use local applets only’ from the protocols tab in the Formativ control panel applet (is that the same as ‘No Protocols’?), and restarted GroupWise. There are no Formativ menus.

    Thanks.

    I’ll organize to make available a special debug Admin build available. We’ll be in contact shortly by email.

    I have not yet received a debug build of Formativ Admin via email, or indeed any communication from Advansys. I’m eager to begin using Formativ, and would like to hear from you soon.

    Thanks.
