Thank you for your enquiry.
I think you are referring to the Archive To Go Viewer. When the Viewer displays an HTML-format message that includes an active link to an email address (ie. mailto:), you can click the link to have your default email client open a new composing message with that same address as the recipient. The Viewer does not support active mailto: items in the plain-text format.
Archive To Go 1.2 introduced Forward and Reply for archived messages. Which version are you using?
Could you provide more details on how you wish to use mailto: with Archive To Go?
Regards,
Advansys SupportTim,
We have had a number of requests for this feature, and it is among the list of enhancements. Unfortunately I have no information about when this feature will be included in a future release of this product.
Kind regards,
Advansys SupportThank you for your enquiry.
Each Contact from a personal address book is stored by Archive To Go as a file with the same name as the Contact. It is possible that a Contact filename contains an illegal character for the target backup media (but not for Windows).
To help clarify the problem, please answer the following questions/requests:
- Does the error dialog identify the specific item (eg. file) that causes the error? If so, please indicate the name of the item; it may be useful to post (or email, see below) a screenshot of this dialog.
- What kind of media are you attempting to use for this backup, and what software?
- Please email the export log file (from the archive root directory) to support@advansyscorp.com
- Please zip the directory “_metadata” from the archive directory “media-01” and email the zipfile to support@advansyscorp.com
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Regards,
Advansys SupportSorry, we do not have a “batch based help to clean system” from a previous installation.
I suggest that, whichever version is installed, you do the following:
- Use Add or Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel to uninstall it.
- Use File Explorer to navigate to the install directory (if it still exists after uninstalling), usually C:Program FilesAdvansysArchive To Go
- Delete all files inside this directory.
- Install v1.2
I hope this helps. If you find that you cannot run Creator, please describe what happens. It may be useful to send a screen shot; please send any image or other files to support@advansyscorp.com
Regards,
Advansys SupportVersion 1.2 requires you to first uninstall an earlier version. I suggest you use Add or Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel to uninstall. The uninstall/install process will preserve existing configuration files.

Can Formativ be used to READ the meta data properties of a GW e-mail message and/or its document attachments?
Yes. Advansys Message Saver (AMS) records message metadata inside the FML file after reading it via the Formativ interface to the GroupWise APIs. You can see this metadata as items inside the FML file (try opening one using a text editor or Web browser), eg. Read/Unread, Private, Forwarded, Replied, categories. For file attachments, Message Saver records DisplayName, FileName.
The GroupWise APIs do not provide a way to access the metadata for specific proprietary document formats. Depending on the metadata you wish to access, you might need to look into creating/obtaining a reader for each format. If the metadata of interest to you are the items on the Summary tab of a document’s property sheet (eg. use Windows File Explorer to select a PDF file, open its context menu, select Properties), I think it should be possible to use the Windows APIs to access this information.
I hope this helps.

Thank you for the update, and good to hear that you have resolved this issue.
Certainly the replacement code is the form we recommend for initializing a Formativ Portal.
I suspect that the strange behavior is caused by more than one copy of exactly the same Portal. The first code block could permit multiple copies of a Portal, if the applet is executed more than once. This might happen inadvertently if the applet is configured (via GroupWise integrations) to be triggered by more than one event – not only startup. Just an idea.
Regards,
Advansys SupportThank you for your report.
We have not heard of this kind of behavior which is very strange. Unfortunately we do not know what might cause this. It is possible that some data corruption has occurred in copying from hard drive to DVD. Can you confirm that in the folder “media-01” the following folders exist:
_index [exists if optional index was created] _metadata [should exist] _viewer [already confirmed] data [should exist]
Are you able to start the Finder application (a2gofinder.exe), also inside the “_viewer” folder? If you search for items that you expect to be in the archive, do they appear in the results list? If you open an item in the result list (double-click), does the Viewer start and display the item?
Regards,
Advansys SupportThank you for the additional details.
Unfortunately, given that the problem occurs in such specific circumstances (and nobody else has reported it), our engineers do not expect to be able to reproduce it in a test environment.
Can you identify what is different between the two PCs, where Studio works on one but not on the other?
Regards,
Advansys SupportThis enquiry will be handled by direct email.
Regards,
Advansys SupportThank you for your suggestion, Stephan.
It should not be necessary to copy the component files (DLL/OCX) to the System32 directory. The installer’s default location for these files is a sub-directory of C:Novellndk.
In addition to the ActiveX binaries and documentation files, two batch files are installed: for registering (Regocx.bat) and unregistering (Unregocx.bat) the components. As far as I know, registration must be done manually (the installer will not do it). If no more information is available on the Novell forum, you may wish to consider creating your own ‘silent’ batch file installer, based on the files from a test installation.
Regards,
Advansys SupportThank you for reporting this error. It sounds like the error is caused by corrupt data in the employee’s mailbox.
Could you send the log file (index.log) from the Indexer process to support@advansyscorp.com, please? You should find this file in a folder named “_index” in the last “media-nn” folder (where “nn” is a number from 01-99) in the archive.
If possible please send the associated FML file (ie. the exported GroupWise message) for our engineers to inspect. This will help them to determine the scale of the issue.
The log entry about this error should include the message ID, as in the example below where the message ID is “4545458F.ACME.OHIO.100.7A69681.1.C6654.1”.
quote:
Exception indexing message ‘Acme images attached’ 4545458F.ACME.OHIO.100.7A69681.1.C6654.1:
System.Xml.XmlException: An unexpected end of file parsing CDATA has occurred. Line 137, position 1.
To find the FML file you can use Windows Explorer to search for a file with the message ID in its name, eg. “4545458F.ACME.OHIO.100.7A69681.1.C6654.1.fml”
We hope to hear from you soon.
Regards,
Advansys SupportThank you for clarifying your requirement.
Unfortunately it is not possible to use a visual ActiveX control on a Formativ Form (ie. apart from those ActiveX controls already on Formativ’s component palette).
To make your OCX usable with a Formativ applet, I suggest you create another OCX/DLL which exposes a Form using this control in the way you require. Then your Formativ applet can create an instance of the Form OCX/DLL. Of course the Form should provide methods/properties for all input/output required by the applet.
For related information see also this post.
I hope this helps you.

Advansys SupportArchive To Go 1.2 is expected to be released around mid-February 2007. It includes support for exporting GroupWise Resource mailboxes (among other enhancements).
If you would like to test the candidate (Beta) release for Archive To Go 1.2, please send an email to support@advansyscorp.com. If your organization does not already own the full license of Archive To Go and you want to test a full mailbox export with the candidate Trial release, please send an email requesting a full Trial and nominate the Account ID of the GroupWise account you would like to export.
Regards,
Advansys SupportThank you for your enquiry.
An OCX is a COM component/object, which must be used in the same way with any scripting language. The component’s ProgID is used to create an instance; eg. if your OCX is “AllenKey”, implemented in the file AcmeTools.OCX, the ProgId might be “AcmeTools.AllenKey”.
Here is a sample VBScript function to create and return an instance of the Microsoft Word Application object:
function OpenWord dim iName dim oDoc dim oResult ' GetObject (below) will raise an error if Word is not running, ' so suppress normal error handling. on error resume next ' Initialize oResult so we have a value to compare later. set oResult = nothing ' Attempt to reference a running Word instance. set oResult = GetObject(, "Word.Application") if Err.Number <> 0 then call Err.Clear end if if oResult is nothing then ' Create an instance of the Word application. set oResult = CreateObject("Word.Application") end if set OpenWord = oResult end functionI hope this helps you.
