Thank you very much for the personal archive which has enabled us to reproduce the problem. Engineering can now proceed with the debugging process to determine the cause and hopefully also a solution.
We will advise you as soon as we have an update on this issue.

Hi Cheryl,
It’s fair enough that you didn’t install it initially because the installation of Formativ Creator should not make your applets disappear. Formativ Creator supports both Flexalocked and open source applets, although we suspect it may have to do with a setting related to eDirectory applet libraries.
Are you able to send a copy of your working Formativ Studio 2.7 configuration information to support AT advansyscorp.com for review?
Thanks and kind regards,

quote:How do I fix the problem. Thanks for your post and unfortunately that’s a very good question. A review of our records indicates four other reports of this issue since Archive To Go was released in 2005. It is related to data corruption within a GroupWise message but it is so rare we’ve never been able to replicate nor work-around this issue.
One of the problems in solving these types of issues is Advansys getting access to corrupted messages. Often if they are forwarded via the Internet to us, the act of sending via SMTP alters the message and the problem.
One approach we have just used successfully for another issue is for the customer to provide us with a copy of a GroupWise personal archive containing the message. In most cases this should preserve the integrity of the ‘problem’ message and we can subsequently graft it into a test system internally, then use debugging techniques to isolate the point of failure.
- Unarchive the problem message(s) if it is already archived in an existing personal archive.
- After documenting the current personal archive location setting, change the user’s GroupWise client archive path to a convenient temporary location.
- Archive the problem message(s) into a new GroupWise personal archive.
- Make a copy of the folder containing the new GroupWise personal archive containing the problem message(s).
- To prove the problem can be replicated, run Archive To Go and attempt to export the new GroupWise personal archive and note the results.
- Restore the problem message(s) into the user’s main account.
- Change the user’s GroupWise client archive path back to its original location, which was documented earlier.
- If required, re-archive the user’s problem message(s) back into their standard personal archive.
- If the Archive To Go archive process produces the same error in the test above, please send us the copy of the folder, including its sub-folders, which contains the GroupWise personal archive with the problem message(s).
Another fallback approach is to provide Advansys with access to the mailbox via the Internet and we can debug on the live account. We did this successfully recently to confirm a problem which was also successfully replicated using the above personal archive approach. The personal archive method is preferred as a first option because it is usually a reasonable size, faster, self-contained and isolated from the live GroupWise system. Theoretically an isolated copy of a caching or remote mailbox, disconnected from the internet, could work too.
All customer information provided for research and development is treated as confidential.
If Advansys can replicate the problem using this approach, through systematic research and development it may be possible to work around this type of corruption and subsequently export all or part of the message.
Please let us know if you have any questions and feel free to communicate directly to support AT advansyscorp.com.

Hi Cheryl,
Thank you for your question. Do you mean that you installed Formativ Creator 2.7 on a machine which had Formativ Studio 2.6? If so, how was Formativ Studio configured, i.e. for eDirectory Applet Library integration or via the standard local Applets folder in under Documents?
Upgrading should never remove applets, although perhaps there was a configuration change for some reason and Formativ Creator can no longer see the applets.
While it is not being sold nor supported in future, you can still install Formativ Studio 2.7 if your environment supports eDirectory via the Novell Client. If it was the same machine where the applets disappeared, did you try installing Formativ Studio 2.7?
On the machine where the applets disappeared, are you able to send us the Formativ Configuration (GroupWise Help | About Formativ… | Configuration tab | Copy to clipboard) via email to support AT advansyscorp.com?
Kind Regards,
Advansys Support
Hello and thank you for your message. You should be able to achieve the silent installation using the following MSI command line switch: /q or /quiet.
For example:
archive2go.msi /q
archive2go.msi /quietYou may find it helpful to review the full list of available command-line options with Windows Installer:

As a ZENworks user, You may also wish to review BundleCommander: http://www.bundlecommander.com/
We hope this helps address your requirement.

Hi Joost,
Thanks for the link to the image file, which is accessible. We’ve not seen that duplicated folder behavior previously and will need to discuss it with the project engineering team.
quote:Can i also delete the “fomative portals” folders which is created after the installation of formative runtime.Yes, you can delete the Formativ Portals folder or during installation you can configure this option to be off, which means Formativ won’t create the folder. See the Using an Installation Configuration File in the Standard Installation section of the FOrmativ Runtime Help File (GroupWise Help menu | Formativ Help | Runtime Guide).
Under the Configuration section of the INI file, you can use the following setting (set to 0 instead of 1 which is the default):
[Configuration]
Portal Folder Enabled=0You can always send direct emails to support AT advansyscorp.com (substitute the ” AT ” with an “@” character).

Dear Joost,
Thank you for the background and additional information about the folders. User can safely delete the Formativ Portals folder, which is created automatically when it is enabled in the Formativ Windows Control Panel Applet. You can turn the option off via the Control Panel Applet. Not sure why it is creating multiple folders… that indicates something has gone wrong, perhaps with the caching synchronization process.
The Formativ Portals folder is used by some of our solutions to display web based pages or reports. It can also be configured to run an applet automatically when you click on the folder.

Dear Joost,
Thank you for the additional information and the feedback that user’s find the operation confusing when it moves to the next message. This is probably due to the the way we have to delete and then recreate the message without the attachments.
This feedback will be reviewed by the engineering team and see what can be done to select the processed message.
Kind Regards,
Advansys Support
Thanks again for your post. We will need to investigate your observation about the message selection focus moving with GroupWise 2012 and Formativ 2.6. We are not aware of what could have changed within Formativ 2.7 code which could precipitate a change in behavior of the Delete Attachments applet.
On the test workstation, did you use both Formativ 2.6 and 2.7 and found the same result?
When testing Formativ 2.6 and 2.7 on the same workstation, were you using the same GroupWise Client version, GroupWise user account and operating mode (online/caching)? The question is to help ascertain if their are any environmental differences apart from the variation in Formativ version.
Just to be thorough, if you have not already done so, could you try downloading the Delete Attachments applet from here: http://www.advansyscorp.com/pr…nload/cool-solns-dl/

Hi Joost,
Thanks for your message. We’ll respond to your later message, although what do you mean by extra empty Formativ folders? Are you able to supply a screen shot to support AT advansyscorp.com?

Thanks for the update about the GWCheck and sorry to hear that it did not resolve the problem. Experience over the years indicates that when data related problems occur, they are often within GroupWise personal archives. This may be simply the process of archiving over a long period of time, and perhaps different client revisions, which may increase risk of database corruption.
One approach we’ve found to be relatively successful is to identify the personal archive folder which is causing the problem from the error log. Then access the personal archive and move some messages from the problematic folder into onto another folder. This is also mentioned in our hints and tips. This approach is not an exact science but we believe the movement of messages causes a rewrite of some underlying database tables, which can resolve these type of export issues. Of course it could also come down to a specific corrupt message. The only way to help identify the general problem is by analyzing the log files and perhaps keeping note if A2Go seems to crash at exactly the same point in the export process.

October 27, 2014 at 3:09 pm in reply to: GW2014 support for “Delete Attachments” applet and Formativ runtime #9938Hi Iwan,
Thank you for your post. Our in-house testing has shown that the “Delete Attachments” applet works when using the GroupWise 2014 Windows client with Formativ 2.7, which we will be releasing soon. Formativ 2.7 is code complete but the release preparations are not completed, such as website update. To get a ‘quiet’ but unofficial access to the release installers, you can visit the work-in-progress web pages here: http://www.advansyscorp.com/products/extend/formativ/.
Please note that any content on the work-in-progress web pages are subject to change without notice.
