GroupWise security precludes you from changing most attributes (including the body text) of pre-existing Group items. (i.e items sent to you from someone else).
You are able to change more attributes of posted (i.e. personal) items, but I suspect this is not what you want to do.
Depending on your needs, you may wish to investigate the possbility of adding custom fields to the messages instead, or storing custom data externally (a database perhaps?) and linking it to the GroupWise message via its message ID).
I hope this helps.

Yes, this certainly sounds possible. You can add custom fields to the address book, and you are able to programmatically add data to such a field.
We don’t have any off the shelf applets that do this. If you are intending to develop such a system yourself, I would suggest you have a look at the examples available with Formativ Developer and Admin.

May 7, 2003 at 5:03 pm in reply to: After Install of Formative Admin and NDS Schema Ext., there is no Applet menu. #5419Thanks for the update. I doubt this is a hardware problem.
We really need to ensure the problem is not being caused by settings coming down from eDirectory (a completely clean machine won’t affect this aspect of the system).
Select ‘No Protocols’ from the Formativ Control Panel applet and restart GroupWise. This will force Formativ to ignore eDirectory and use the local settings. Once re-started, check if you have any Formativ entries on the GroupWise ‘About’ menu item.
If this fails, I’ll send you a special version that logs the startup process. This should tell us very quickly where the problem lies.

Are you using Formativ Admin, Developer or Runtime? If you are using Admin or Developer, have you tried the suggestion in the dfallon thread you mention regarding the test applet?
In the meantime, I have forwarded this issue to engineering for comment, and will post a reply here when I receive more information.

May 4, 2003 at 4:25 pm in reply to: After Install of Formative Admin and NDS Schema Ext., there is no Applet menu. #5422The complete absence of menus would indicate Formativ is not loading at all. This is normally caused by:
1) An incomplete/corrupt Formativ installation;
2) An incomplete/corrupt GroupWise client installation;
3) Formativ is disabled.The first thing to check is the Formativ Windows Control Panel applet. From the Windows start menu, select Settings|Control Panel, then start the Formativ Control Panel applet. On the enable features tab, ensure Formativ and it’s components are enabled (i.e the appropriate check boxes are active).
Did you seen the menus in GroupWise prior to setting up eDirectory? If you did, it is possible that the configuration object you are now using is set to disable Formativ. Open the appropriate configuration object in ConsoleOne and check the ‘Formativ is enabled’ option is checked, as well as the ‘Create…’, ‘Record…’, ‘Run menu…’ and ‘Favorites…’ options. Restart GroupWise after changing any of these options.
You could also check if this is a configuration issue by selecting ‘No Protocols’ from the Formativ Control Panel applet and retstarting GroupWise. This will force Formativ to ignore eDirectory and use the local settings.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you continue to experience problems.

May 1, 2003 at 4:14 pm in reply to: After Install of Formative Admin and NDS Schema Ext., there is no Applet menu. #5420Thank you for your posting. Your configuration information looks OK, so the cause of the problem is not obvious.
We need to determine if the problem lies with just the ‘Applets’ menu item, or the menu integration system generally. In GroupWise, from the main menu select ‘Help’. Are there any Formativ menu items on this menu? There should be at least an ‘About Formativ’ menu item.
Once we determine the extent of the problem the resolution should not be difficult.

Your first posting example does work as long as the default GroupWise compose view is plain text (actually RTF). It will not work if the compose view is HTML.
You can force the view to be plain (RTF) text in your applet. See the example below:
Call GroupWise.NewMail Call GroupWise.SwitchToRTFView Call GroupWise.FocusSet(10, "") Call GroupWise.TypeText("Hello ") Call GroupWise.FontBold(True) Call GroupWise.TypeText("Mr support") Call GroupWise.FontBold(False)Regards,

I have requested feedback from our Engineering team regarding this issue, and will report back in this thread.
In the meantime, could you let me know if this problem just started to appear, or has it been an issue for some time?
Additionally, are you using the same GroupWise account on both the notebook and the desktop?

Formativ is suited to this kind of simple workflow. Formativ 1.5, the current release, could be used to build this workflow. If you have development resources in-house familiar with VB development you could probably build this yourself using the example applets and Developers Guide as a starting point. Alternatively, you could contract the development work. If this option interests you, write to sales@advansyscorp.com.
Formativ 1.6, due for release within the next five weeks, makes it even easier to build this kind of workflow in a more integrated way. Depending on the size of your organization, you may be interested in beta testing 1.6 with the simple workflow you describe. Send an email to support@advansyscorp.com if you might be interested in pursuing this option.
